How to Uninstall CMDK and Undo Its Settings

Removing CMDK takes one click in your browser. The trial never asks for a credit card, so if you never subscribed, there is no charge and nothing to cancel.

Install CMDK for Gmail, free

Uninstall in Chrome or Edge

  1. Open chrome://extensions (in Edge, edge://extensions).
  2. Find CMDK. The full name starts with CMDK.
  3. Click Remove, then confirm.

Reload Gmail. The command bar, the lightning bolt, split inbox, and any buttons CMDK hid are gone. Gmail is drawing its own page again.

Uninstall in Firefox

  1. Open the menu and choose Add-ons and themes, or go to about:addons.
  2. Select CMDK.
  3. Click Remove.

Uninstall in Safari

  1. Open Safari, then Settings, then Extensions.
  2. Select CMDK.
  3. Uninstall it. If the button is not there, uncheck CMDK so it stops running, then delete the app from the Applications folder if you installed it that way.

What disappears, and what you undo yourself

Most of what CMDK changed lives inside the extension. Uninstalling throws that away:

  • The command bar and the shortcuts it added on top of Gmail
  • Split inbox tabs
  • Hidden buttons, panels, and the Minimal layout
  • Snippets, reminders, and read receipts on new mail

Two Gmail settings can stay on, because CMDK turns them on in Gmail itself during setup. They are Gmail’s settings, not a lock. Turn them off in Gmail: gear icon, See all settings, General.

  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Auto-advance (archive or delete opens the next email)

Mail you already sent can still carry a read-receipt pixel. Uninstalling stops CMDK from adding one to new messages. It does not rewrite mail that has already left your outbox.

Nuke is free

Nuking a sender does not require a paid plan. Open a message, hit the Nuke button (the 🚫 in the toolbar), and confirm. CMDK deletes the mail from that sender and creates a Gmail filter so later mail from them is deleted too. You can do this without paying and without a card.

Nuking a whole company is the paid step. One sender is not.

If you want that mail back, undo the Nuke for free. Gmail keeps nuked messages in Trash for 30 days, and the filter sits in Gmail’s own filter list until you delete it. The steps are in How to Undo a Nuke.

Uninstall does not cancel a subscription

Removing the extension does not cancel a paid plan. If you subscribed, cancel that separately or you will still be billed.

Cancel it in CMDK settings, under Account, then manage the subscription. On Safari that goes to the App Store. On Chrome, Firefox, and Edge it goes to billing on the web. If you cannot find the cancel button, write to [email protected] and we will cancel it.

The trial is 15 days and does not ask for a credit card. If you never subscribed, there is no charge and nothing to cancel.

Frequently asked questions

Does uninstalling CMDK delete my Gmail?

No. Your mail, labels, and filters stay in Gmail. Only CMDK’s own layer is removed.

Will I be charged after I uninstall?

Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription. If you never entered a card, there is nothing to bill. If you subscribed, cancel in Account settings, or write to [email protected].

Is Nuke free?

Nuking one sender is free. You do not need a subscription, and you can undo it by deleting the Gmail filter and restoring mail from Trash. How to Undo a Nuke walks through that.

Can I turn CMDK’s layout changes back off without uninstalling?

Yes. Appearance settings in CMDK have a reset, and the Classic preset puts the buttons back. Uninstalling removes them all at once.

If you reinstall later, CMDK is the same extension. The trial still does not ask for a card.
