CMDK (formerly Simplehuman) | Supercharge your Gmail

🚨 Simplehuman is now CMDK   |   New name. Same mission.  Read More.

Press S on any message to add a star, and press it again to take the star away. Stars are Gmail’s lightest way to flag mail worth coming back to, and this shortcut lets you set and clear them as you read.

CMDK transforms your Gmail into a keyboard first experience, not just transforming existing Gmail keyboard shortcuts but also adding new ones for you to be 2x faster at email. CMDK also adds a command bar, natural language snooze, split inbox with Tabs, one-click email nuke, and easy account switching tools. It reduces your reliance on the mouse, getting you into a state of flow as you use Gmail everyday.

Toggle star Gmail Shortcut Tutorial

To use the Gmail shortcut Toggle star, follow these steps:

1. Open your Gmail account and sign in with your credentials.

2. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select “See all settings” from the dropdown menu.

3. In the Settings menu, navigate to the “General” tab.

4. Scroll down until you find the “Keyboard shortcuts” section.

5. Click on the radio button next to “Keyboard shortcuts on” to enable keyboard shortcuts in Gmail.

6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the “Save Changes” button.

7. Now that keyboard shortcuts are enabled, go back to your Gmail account.

8. Open an email that you want to toggle the star for.

9. Press the “s” key on your keyboard to toggle the star for that email.

10. You will see the star icon appear or disappear next to the email, indicating that the star has been toggled.

If turning Gmail’s shortcuts on by hand feels fiddly, the CMDK extension switches them on for you the moment you install it, so Toggle Star works right away with no setup.

Make every keystroke count

Learning Toggle Star is worth it, but you do not have to stop there. CMDK turns Gmail into an inbox you run entirely from the keyboard: more than 80 shortcuts, a command bar for any action, snooze you can type in plain English, a tabbed split inbox, and one-key sender nuke. Add it to Chrome and keep your hands off the mouse.
